Bailey has been through so much in his short life.
At nine months old he was diagnosed with hip dysplasia.
Our vet referred us to the Dallas Veterinarian Surgery Center.
They recommended TPO (triple pelvic osteotomy) surgery.
Only puppies less than a year old are candidates, but it has to be done
before any arthritis sets in.  This put us in a time crunch.
We visited with the surgeon (a specialist in this type of surgery), talked
to several other Golden people, and did lots of research on the internet.
Since Bailey LOVES his agility (and he certainly can't do agility with bad
hips), we decided to bite the bullet and do it.  We scheduled his
surgery for August 7, 2002.

Coming out of the tunnel.

And another time.  He
LOVES the tunnel!

Finishing a jump.  Remember, he's a beginner (with bad hips), so the jumps are very low.
Oh, yeah, that's Donna, our resident agility trainer.

treat after a job well done.

Bailey came through the surgery with flying colors.
The hard part will be keeping him inactive for 4 weeks.
If he does well for the next 4 weeks, he'll have surgery on his other hip
and then he'll have to rehab for about 12 weeks before he can be
his usual old playful self and get back to his agility.

Kahlua (the baby) wouldn't leave Bailey's side after he came home from surgery.
